Inappropriate (Bristol Island Standalone Books Book 2), by Elizabeth Finn

Cohen is a man apart on Bristol Island—an outcast loved by all but separated by his position within the community. Dylan is the newest resident in town, but she arrives with a dark secret and a desire to keep it buried.

But when burning attraction is thrown into the mix, his job and her secrets are quickly forgotten—that is until one impetuous decision renders a relationship off-limits, unethical, and utterly inappropriate.

Living next door to one another on the island’s isolated peninsula guarantees their paths will cross time and time again. With fate tempting Cohen to ignore his conscience and, for the first time in his life, gamble with the rules, will he risk everything for Dylan?

And what happens when Dylan’s past suddenly catches up to her? Will she find the strength to bare her soul to him? Or will she let her secrets take them both down?

Sometimes the inappropriate relationship is the most appropriate of them all.

Good emotional angst with a sexy-sweet jerk hero
By AmazonCustomer
I think this author can write a very good jerk hero, one of my favorite kind of heroes to read. If you like some jerk mixed with sweetness in your hero, you'll probably enjoy Cohen. He has his sweet moments, but there are some scenes where he is hard on Dylan and he lashes out at her and the situation. I think E. Finn can write some good emotional drama/angst, some good inner conflict, and flawed but still very likable characters.

I liked both Cohen and Dylan, although I do think I didn't get a feel for Dylan until deeper into the story. I did like the conflict going on with both h/H. Really enjoyed the forbidden aspect to their relationship in the beginning, of doctor and patient. I liked Co struggling with his feelings and desire for Dylan. Then, that's compounded by Dylan's profession and also the secret she's keeping.

I understood her feeling of embarrassment over it, but I didn't think it was her fault or something she should have felt guilty over. Cohen has a total jerk moment over it, due to his own jealousy, and I have to admit I was thinking, Get over it, dude, and cut the woman some slack. He really got his azz over his shoulder on that one.

The sex was hot with erotic detail, heat, and neediness. I liked both h/H and was happy to see them be together; I enjoyed the emotional appeal and angst of the relationship. My only real quibble is that I noticed the use of the word "smirk" too much and was almost distracted by it. But that might be just me. The epilogue was a sweet and happy endnote.

This is a stand-alone read. I think it happens about 3 years after book 1, The Fight for Us (Bristol Island Standalone Books Book 1), and we do see Joss and Isaiah and the girls again, which I loved. Book 1 is my favorite and is a better read (in my opinion), but this book 2 was good for me. I'm hoping EF writes a book for Caleb. He was funny and sexy, and I would love the irony of seeing him in a similar situation as his brother!

Beautiful read, angsty, romantic and hot!!

Inappropriate (Bristol Island #2) by Elizabeth Finn
5 stars!!

“To err is human; to forgive, divine.”

I have read the majority of Elizabeth Finn’s books and I can easily say that this is her best one yet. Elizabeth Finn is one of those authors that are still relatively unknown and her work needs to be read, it deserves to be read. She always pens a perfectly balanced book full of angst, emotion and romance. As soon as I started reading Inappropriate I was hooked and I was pulled into the tiny place known as Bristol Island and more importantly the story of Dylan and Cohen.

Dylan was Bristol Islands newest resident, she was a romance/erotic author and was also running from her past, so what sanctuary could be better than an Island with a tiny population and one that was way out of the way from civilisation as we know it. The peace and tranquillity should prove to be the perfect back drop for some productive writing.

Cohen was Dylan’s one and only neighbour and being the courteous professional that he was he made the introductions. After a couple of meetings it soon becomes apparent that they have an intense attraction to each other, but Cohen seems reticent to take that step and romance is definitely not on Dylan’s agenda, especially considering her already growing six year sabbatical from the male population.

Dylan needs to see a doctor for birth control to ease her monthly stomach ripping cramps and after consulting with the practice off the Island and finding out there was a seven week wait she decides to go to the small clinic situated on the Island. It is here that she finds out that Cohen is actually Dr Cohen and after needing a PAP before her birth control can be prescribed, the Doctor/Patient relationship becomes real and seemingly puts an end to any potential romantic relationship between the two.

“And how exactly does one go about refusing to treat a patient? ‘Sorry, ma’am, I can’t stick a speculum up your pussy because I’d rather be effing it?”

Dylan creates what she cannot have in her books, her perfect man and at present she is struggling with the male character she is currently writing about. Her one and only handsome neighbour ends up taking over her thoughts as well as her fingers that fly across the keyboard and so her newest male character suddenly morphs into one handsome Doctor and the words just keep coming.

Cohen was such a good guy and an excellent Doctor and even though Dylan invaded every thought, every second of every day he just couldn’t bring himself to act upon them. He prided himself on his ethics and not crossing those lines but the more they interacted the more his thoughts and those lines blurred. Being the only Doctor on the Island had its drawbacks, was he destined to forever be a monk when every woman he was surrounded by was ethically off limits.

“His body was strong, but he was starting to question whether there was any strength of character in himself at all.”

This was a longer book but when I was reading it never felt that way. I was totally engrossed in Dylan and Cohen’s story and I just couldn’t put it down. Elizabeth Finn has always manages to pen fantastic love scenes and this book is no different. The chemistry was palpable and their connection was tangible. Every warring thought, every sly look and touch came to life through some magical words that totally grabbed my attention and tugged at my emotions. Forbidden love always has that sense of fear and the unknown and as you read you just know that despite their best efforts to keep it under wraps, that on a small island where everyone knows everyone and gossip is rife that their private life will not remain private for very long.

“You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible…I…regret…nothing.”

Dylan and Cohen’s struggles were real; their story was beautifully written and intensely engaging. My heart hammered at times and I shed quite a few tears. It seems everything is against them, between their jobs and Dylan’s past. I loved the fact that Cohen was a closet alpha, he was a squeaky clean Doctor on the outside but behind closed doors he was intense and this was perfectly portrayed in those scenes.

“Our past only has the power we give it, and I think you’re giving yours too much.”

It was great to catch up with Joss and Isaiah from The Fight For Us (book 1) in this series and I loved meeting Cohen’s brother Caleb. He was a total character and I hope that he is the character up next in this series; I bet he has a very interesting tale to tell. I cannot wait for more!!

“What could have been, what would have been, what should have been. We should have been.”

I couldn't put this book down
By Stephanie-The Boyfriend Bookmark
Oh boy… so the good doctor is so attracted to his neighbor and Joss really wants them together. One problem… he is the only doctor on the island and she is his neighbor…and his patient.

This book is so much more than forbidden love. Though it is unethical for him to go out with a patient, he can’t help but be attracted to her. But she has so many secrets as well. Her past is a tough one for her to deal with and now it seems they will have to face all of this at once.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. A big part of me said screw everyone if they can’t handle this, but at the same time I wanted to embrace and keep the characters safe. I wanted them together, but I knew what they both had to get through in order for that to happen. This book just did not let up from the very first page, the struggles and the need battled it out throughout the entire book.

Though I can’t say that I didn’t like it. I was definitely glued to my seat reading it. I couldn’t put it down. I cooked dinner, went to the restroom, walked around all while reading this book. It was too good to stop and it was gripping enough, I couldn’t find a place to do that.

Now, one downside to this book for me is that it is kind of a long book, so right when you know you should take a break that old “one more chapter” catches you and the next thing you know it is three in the morning and you are finished with the book.

So aside from ignoring my family, my home and my life, I loved every moment of this book. It was agonizing and heartbreaking and it was full of steam and want. It was the perfect combination and I cannot wait for more from this island!
