Will Make you Think Twice about Being an Auditor

This text clearly reflects the difference between accounting and auditing.For those who love accounting as I do, you may find the material quite challenging especially in terms of keeping one's focus. The subject matter is dry and repetitive. The key information boxes are all the same which makes locating specific information difficult. However, from an auditing perspective the information is excellent.The material builds on itself and gives a comprehensive presentation of the entire auditing cycle. The instructor I had did not use the CD which would have made the course much more interesting.

After WWII the existing railway companies were all put into the control of the newly formed British Transport Commission and that government organization spawned British Railways, which came into being on 1st January 1948. Although the management of British Railways was already planning to replace steam power with diesel and electric engines/units they still took a decision to build more steam locomotives (as a stop gap).

Some 999 (yes just 1 short) Standard locomotives were built in 12 classes ranging from super powerful express and freight engine to suburban tank locomotives. The locomotives were mainly in good order when the order came in 1968 to end steam, some only 8 years old.

There still exists a fleet of 46 preserved Standards of which 75% are in working order in and around the UKs preserved railways, furthermore 3 new build standard locomotives are proposed. Steam fans who were around in the 1960s all remember the 'Standards'.

Here Keith Langston Presents a 'potted history' of the different British Railways Standard classes, plus the Riddles 'Dub Deed', Providing a welcome reference work for those looking for an up-to-date picture. For what this book does succinctly is to show both the BD scene and the post-preservation era. Many reference books will give chapter and verse on the BR days and then just inform us weather a locomotive has been preserved or scrapped. For some locomotives there is - fortunately - more of a story to be told. After examining the work of Riddles and the Standard Design Group, a chapter is allocated to each class. In the case of the 'Britannias' and 'Clans', details and at least one photograph of each class member are included. It is this integrative approach of looking at landscape as a kind of self-organising system, overlaid by conscious human planning activities and the unity of pattern and process, which makes this book unique. Landscape draws from a wide range of neighbouring disciplines, of which the landscape planner or designer needs to be aware, but which are often taught as distinct elements. Bell binds these fundamentals together, which enables the landscape to be ‘read’, and this reading to be used as the basis for planning and design.

This second edition updates and refreshes the original material with added sections and new photos, particularly making use of the developments in satellite photography. Featuring full colour throughout, this textbook is ideal for anyone studying landscape architecture or any of the disciplines which intersect with the landscape, and which affect it.

Landscape - Patterns, Perception, and Process

I bought this book for a class about two years ago, it was a not required, but my professor suggested it in addition to our required text. After the semester ended, the course was reformatted, and this book was not being bought back. This book sat on the shelf with others I've kept, decided to buy, or also have been left with until about November.

I really wish we had used the book, I wish that I had read it earlier because some of the design principles raised by Bell have dramatically helped to improve my work. I haven't finished the book yet, but it has helped me greatly to understand my own designs to explain them to others, as well as to form a starting point with the idea that humans have certain native proportions, angles, shapes, colors, and patterns that are perceived as beautiful. These concepts are necessary when you are involved in landscape architecture, and I'm very glad I ended up using this book.

I have had this book for years, since just after it came out. I have known the author for many years and we published a book together: Designing Sustainable Forest Landscapes. The author, Simon Bell, is a leading thinker, researcher, and quite capable landscape architect who has spent his career trying to understand landscape patterns and processes and how these can be used in design and conservation. I have often dug into my copy to find references to issues that I am working with day to day, in the field of landscape ecology and aesthetics.

The standard for MSE books.

Taking a materials science/mechanical engineering course that uses this book and I love it.

Very clear writing/explanations, use of intuitive notation, problems gradually get tougher at a reasonable rate. Although my area is more in control systems, this MSE book has been really interesting. I'd take another course in it if I had time.

Book definitely assumes you have the prerequisites though -- some of the math can get tricky, but's all reasonable for an undergrad. Excellent colors/visually appealing. I think MSE is a very visual subject, and since I'm not a visual person, it really helps to see what's going on with clear diagrams/pictures.

My professor said this is a classic MSE book and I can see why. Two thumbs up.

Covers all the Material you need

This book covers everything you'll want to know for the foundation of material science and engineering. Great book that explains the concepts well and efficiently. I've gone to this book several times for covering topics I didn't cover in class, and the book did a great job of catching me up. I even used this for other classes like Fluid Mechanics or Heat Transfer. It's got it all. The example problems, while sometimes basic, provided you a great way to know if you understand the (wait for it....) material!

Love this book

I sold my newer edition and got an older edition (costs less money). This book has great detail and great at explaining things. I am a materials engineer and this is by far my most referenced book for a jumping off point. If you are unclear about something, I would start with this book and it will provide general details. After that, you can use resources that are more focused on a certain subject. I use it to refresh on basic ideas all of the time. This book provides such a strong foundation you would be crazy not to have it on your book shelf for reference if you do anything really materials oriented.

About the Author

Penny Mukherji�has been involved in educating students in the field of early childhood for over 20 years and during this time has developed a deep understanding of how to support students on their learning journeys. Penny has recently retired from her post a Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies at London Metropolitan University, where an important part of her teaching involved supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate students as they complete their research projects. Penny continues to be actively involved in the university with supporting students whilst they are completing their dissertations. With a background in health and psychology, Penny is an established author, with a special interest in the health and well-being of young children.

Deborah Albon worked as a nursery nurse, teacher and manager in a range of early childhood settings for nearly 20 years. Her research interests are primarily around food and drink provisioning and play in early childhood settings. Deborah is widely published in this area and has also co-written Negotiating Adult-Child Relationships in Early Childhood Research with Rachel Rosen, which examines the ‘messiness’ of navigating research relationships in the context of early childhood settings. Deborah works as a Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies at London Metropolitan University, where she has considerable experience teaching research methods to both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as supporting them with their dissertations.

Xu Mingtang, Ph.D, Grand Master of Qigong, founder and president of the Mingtang International Fund, president of the Chinese Association of Zhong Yuan Qigong (ZYQ); counselor at the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong; and professor at the Joint Chinese-Western Hospital in Beijing; directs the Kundawell Institutes in Beijing and Seattle.Since 1998 Xu has led the annual international ZYQ retreats in Shaolin. Powerful school of Qigong

Good source of information for people who whant to know more about advanced practices of Qigong. Buy this book if you're curious about levels of soul, soul leaving the body, different worlds, etc. Exercises described are simple, but they constitute a basis for a very profound practice that leads not only to improved health, but to real spiritual development.

Wonderful introduction to the amazing world of Qigong. In depth discussion of theory and detailed explanation of practice exercises, sprinkled with interesting real-life stories from the Grandmaster and practitioners. Highly recommend as a guide to both beginners and ZY Qigong practitioners.

Don't spend your money on this edition!!!

There are editions of this book available for under $30.00 (thirty dollars). Don't buy this edition.

Having said that, the cheaper editions are worth their weight in gold. ZY Qigong is THE way to improve your health, and, if you are interested, can increase your psychic ability and teach you more about the universe than can be taught in even the finest universities. It is not a fast way, but it is real. This is the book that will get you away from reading books and into *experiencing.*

Again, search Amazon for other editions of this books that are selling at a reasonable price.
